The Captain by Joan Bernier
The Captain explores lineage, what is passed down and how we navigate in a starless sky. A solo show tracing three generations of hardness: a 20th century Sea Captain is confronted with the devastating effects of colonization on the deck of his ship, a Nuclear Arms Technician is troubled by the sound of a young girl running and a woman surrounded by wildfire smoke, tries to find her way home. Inspired by the final voyages of Captain Joseph Elzéar Bernier (1852-1934). Written in collaboration with David Ford. Performed by Joan Bernier. Directed by Rebecca Fisher. Proceeds benefit the Arctic Community Food Center: Qajuqturvik Community Food Center in Iqaluit, Nunavut https://www.qajuqturvik.ca As seen at the Montreal Fringe 2021/2022: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/montreal-fringe-festival-2021-1.6064419 Excerpts of this show has been workshopped at: Monday Night Marsh, Tell it on Tuesday, In front of Your Eyes Festival - The Marsh SF and The Rogue Festival - Fresno. |
